AFRICAN LENS: “The Untold Story” exhibit at the Oculus

The next time you find yourself in the Oculus, perhaps en route to the subway or PATH trains, take a cultural detour to the balcony level to check out “The Untold Story,” an exhibition that “delves into the complex tapestry of Maasai culture, fashion and art” (through April 8) curated by Stephanie Zabriskie.

On display: the works of eight international artists (from various backgrounds and working across multiple mediums) inspired by Maasai culture and featuring the Maasai people. All pieces are for sale, with proceeds benefiting humanitarian aid for the Maasai in Tanzania via the organization Humanculture. World Trade Center Oculus, 50 Church St.; Humanculture

It was an honor to dress this extraordinary woman, Stephanie Zabriskie.

She’s the humanitarian force behind @humanculture_org bringing water access, food, security and women’s empowerment to indigenous communities where survival hangs in the balance.

Zabriskie is an international strategist, cultural curator, author and philanthropic innovator whose career spans more than two decades across finance, government advising, global development, and the arts.

“For Zabriskie, wearing Roselyn Silva’s design is more than a style choice; it is an extension of her mission to support and amplify African creators whose craft tells authentic stories of culture and roots while driving their vision forward, innovating for a future where African brilliance not only exists but flourishes in spaces that have been historically closed to them.” - @regardmag

Stephanie Zabriskie - Why One Resort Developer & Philanthropist Wants To Change The Way You Think About Luxury, Forigen Travel, and Celebrating Culture

Luxury resort developer and nonprofit founder Stephanie Zabriskie is redefining what it means to experience culture, travel, and place. A chance encounter in a remote Maasai village in East Africa reshaped the way she thought about human connection and access and ultimately led to the creation of Humanculture, her Indigenous-led nonprofit supporting water, education, health, and cultural continuity in remote communities.

Drawing from her background in destination development, Zabriskie applies the same philosophy to both resorts and humanitarian work: honor the land, respect tradition, and build with — not over — culture.
